Two rings of lovely power

On Friday evening, during a mini-vacation with Jeremy, I asked my boyfriend to join me in a celebration of our special bond. I asked him to do this by exchanging rings with me. I had built up to this moment with a series of arcane puzzles that he had to solve, which was part of the fun — fomenting suspense in someone is a perverted joy of mine.

Jeremy and I share something rare and special — a killer friendship coupled with eroticism and affection and lover laughter. We, in other words, dig each other without walls. Our bond easily spans 13 years of age difference. While I am (generally) calm and reflective, he is vivacious in his approach to everything. He bounces and wriggles and is easily distracted by the very coolness of being alive and melding with others. I love that, it inspires me. He makes me want to cook more, and travel more, and get up off my lazy ass and do stuff.

I think that’s worth celebrating. Since I oppose the gay-marriage movement and don’t find the artifice of Institutional Marriage to be very interesting at all, I’m thrilled that two grown men can honor the special thing they have by human fiat. We live at the intersection of romance and will power, that most underrated of human qualities. Like the crossroads of a fantastic fiction, the offroads and other avenues take shape as we imagine them. We can, my boyfriend and I, become anything we choose to.

Our rings of power simply reflect this.
