Interesting analysis. In general I like the new movies. They come a little closer to the version of batman I liked. It seems we can pick any older version and compare him to what happens in the movies as if they aren't part of the batman oeuvre at all. Aren't the movies yet another version of him? Detective, comic book hero, thug... I always loved him as a mentally damaged near psychopath. In most of the films his masked self is nowhere near a dark, shadowy side of his normal daylight world persona.

Oh. And kook what happened to wolverine. Travesty. A good friend of mine who is a 3D modeler has a huge issue with this. Wolverine was his absolute favorite. And to make himself feel better he did what he thought was right. He photoshopped wolverines claws onto a particularly deranged shot of Jack Nicholson from the shining. That is who he sees the wolverine as.

In the end... Which do we like? He's an interesting character in that respect. We have a choice. A choice that shows our own reflections in the ever spinning batman funhouse mirror.

Oh and BTW... I am a military fetishist and I love the tumbler for it's lack of "aesthetics"'.

I haven't seen Battle LA yet but I thoroughly enjoyed Skyline. I felt it was a realistic portrayal of real people in that situation. They were annoying, which is real. They didn't set out on some grand quest across the city. Real again. Their interactions were spent arguing about what to do... Even more real. I liked the scope of it. One building. One apartment. It maintained POV. The effects were fantastic. Makes sense as it was conceived and directed by VFX guys. I like the twist at the end too.

Going a little off topic here but.. I think it failed because american audiences have a very difficult time understanding and appreciating films that are about an idea. Narrative is important. Stories are important but ideas can be fantastic too. A lot of European cinema is lost on us because we can't see the concept for the picture in front of our face. Movies about ideas are interesting beyond the experience you have while watching them. Asking that of the public at large, who are concerned with immediate gratification, is challenging at best.
