Yahoo! forged strong partnerships with North American telecoms and hired me to help them integrate their industry-leading web-mail application with voicemail and fax services provided by their partners. This meant understanding how people expect their phones and computers to play well together. We conducted extensive usability on the design to make sure our assumptions about users' routines and expectations were correct.
